Gangotri Temple Opening and Sparsh Ganga Program
Last week, the temples of the four holy pilgrimage sites of the Himalayas opened. Pujya Swamiji traveled to Gangotri (Source of Mother Ganga) & Kedarnath for the openings.
In Gangotri, Pujya Swamiji led a special program for Sparsh Ganga, the huge clean Ganga and Gangotri program which Pujya Swamiji initiated and is leading with support & cooperation of the Uttarakhand Government. Pujya Swamiji, Shri L.K. Advani (former Deputy Prime Minister of India), Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank (the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand), Major General Shri B.C. Khanduri (former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand) and many other political, social, and national leaders, along with thousands of attendees, launched the “Sparsh Ganga Campaign” in Gangotri, the source of the river Bhagirathi/Ganga. Thousands of people pledged to help clean and restore the Ganga River and her tributaries.
World famous drummer Sivamani led a procession through the streets, followed by hundreds of school children committed to cleaning up the Ganga. This inspiring event was covered by several representatives of the media.
Pujya Swamiji worked tirelessly, meeting with Gangotri priests, residents, shopkeepers and leaders committed to the cause and making plans for the work to begin.
This program marks the beginning of Swamiji’s “Clean, Green and Serene” campaign, but His team has already achieved great success in clean-ing Ma Ganga with grass-roots volunteer clean-ups and successful lawsuits prohibiting industry from dumping toxic waste into the water.
