Vijayadashami – What is the Significance of Dussehra?

On this sacred festival of Vijaya Dashami/Dussehra, Pujya Swamiji reminds us that the true celebration is not only in witnessing the outer victory of Lord Rama over Ravana, but also in conquering the Ravana within. The heads of Ravana symbolize anger, greed, ego, arrogance, attachment, and negativity. When we burn these tendencies within ourselves, we awaken the light of truth, dharma, devotion, and noble virtues in our lives. From the divine banks of Mother Ganga at Parmarth Niketan, Pujya Swamiji reminds us to live with courage, integrity, and devotion, ensuring the victory of light over darkness, and of good over evil, in every moment of our lives.
